Adults affected by another’s drinking

The effects of problem drinking aren’t usually confined to the drinker.

When some-one has a problem with drinking, the effects can often ripple out to those around them: their families, friends, the people they work with, and sometimes even to random strangers on the street.

A family member or co-worker’s drinking can damage and harm others during drinking sessions, while they’re hungover and also between drinking episodes – during the wait and build up to the next drinking episode.

In this section we provide advice and information for those who have been affected or hurt by someone else’s drinking – that might be as a result of alcohol-related assaults and anti-social behaviour; domestic abuse,  rape and sexual violence.

Each section contains links to relevant supports and services for those seeking help.
